Welcome to the Friends of Bogong website. The Friends are a group of people of all ages and from all walks of life who are interested in the conservation of the Bogong High Plains in the Alpine National Park.

Our objectives are to:

  • Provide support to the management of the Alpine National Park by assisting Parks Victoria with projects on the Bogong High Plains and,

  • Bring people with a mutual interest in the Alpine National Park into contact.

Friends of Bogong was formed in 1984 to provide an avenue for people interested in the Bogong High Plains and adjacent peaks of the Alpine National Park to give something back to the environment they gain so much enjoyment from.

Working with Parks Victoria, we undertake a range of activities, including;

  • Track building and clearing

  • Planting & weed Control

  • Erosion control on tracks and roads

  • Removing old wire fences and posts

  • Building and maintaining picnic tables, sign boards, car parks

  • Hut maintenance

The Friends Group operates under the umbrella of the Victorian Environmental Friends Network (VEFN). Every year the VEFN presents the Best Friends Award to people who have made an outstanding contribution through exceptional devotion as a Friend of a National Park. Four Friends of Bogong members have received this award, including current members Margaret Graham and Dawn Keen.

Our website will give you a taste of our history and the huge amount of work our group has performed over the past three and a half decades.
